Friendly PingMicro-Meditations

Features

Everything the app can do — and why it is built this way. Much of it serves a single purpose: that you have to open it as rarely as possible.

What is a Friendly Ping?

A gentle sound in the middle of your day – paired with a small practice of just a few seconds. No content to consume, no appointment to keep: pause briefly, notice, carry on.

Every Friendly Ping…

  • takes 3–60 seconds – right where you are
  • needs no equipment and no preparation
  • stays discreet – nobody notices you're practicing
  • carries your practice from the cushion into everyday life

Your ping times

You decide when a Friendly Ping reaches you — time of day and weekdays, set separately for each. Three times are already prepared; change them whenever you like. And when you need quiet, one tap pauses everything.

Choosing situation and intention

Every ping time gets its own shape: which situation are you usually in then — at work, on the move, at home? And which quality do you want to invite? Both narrow down which impulses can arrive at all.

Repeating without becoming a clock

A ping can arrive several times within a time window — at even intervals or randomly spread. The random spread is the finer one: you know something is coming, but not when. That not-knowing is what makes the moment awake.

Two ways to use a Friendly Ping

Shuffle – let yourself be surprised

A different impulse sounds each time, drawn from your selection – ideal if you like to be freshly inspired again and again.

Fixed ping – your personal signal

Tie one text to one sound. Over time, the sound alone brings the practice to mind – you don't even need to look at your phone.

This is the most effective way to use this app and bring your intention into daily life.

Why this app wants as little screen time as possible

A gentle sound, not an alarm

Singing bowls and bells, designed to be pleasant rather than intrusive – clearly audible, yet discreet. A cue to pause, not a wake-up call.

Pick a pleasant tone — or just vibration. Tap a sound again to have it play one to three times. With a fixed ping this very sound becomes your signal.

Tap to listen

Or you write it yourself

The sentence that works for you may not be in any library. Type it into the field, pick a sound for it — that is your own Friendly Ping. It stays on your device and belongs to you.

  • Three colour worlds

Forest & Earth, Morning Light, Night Magic. Not a design toy but a question of time of day: what feels friendly in the morning glares at eleven at night.

  • Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself.

A quote when you open it

When you start the app, a sentence greets you — not a dashboard, not a number, not a prompt. It is there; you read it or you don’t, and then you are in.

  • The deep dive behind each ping

The pings in the library come with a background text: where the practice comes from, which tradition it stands in, and what is known about it. Sourced, without mystification. You never have to read it — it is there for when you want to know why you are breathing out three times.

  • Passing a ping on

A ping that struck you can be shared as a card — with its text, its sound and its motif. Whoever receives it can take it straight into their own app.

  • A person standing with outstretched arms on a mountain meadow.

    No account, no statistics

There is nothing to sign up for, nothing to subscribe to, and nothing you could fall behind on. No streak, no progress bar, no feed. Your times, your pings and your favourites live on your device.

Bring mindfulness into the middle of your life. Just try it.
